Edible Gardens
Thoughtfully Grown Edible Gardens, Season by Season
Edible gardens are where many of our roots began. Our approach to growing food is grounded in experience, observation, and a deep understanding of how plants perform in Maine’s climate.
We design and care for edible gardens that are productive, resilient, and thoughtfully integrated into the landscape, whether planted in the ground, in raised beds, or in containers.
What Edible Gardens Are
Edible garden services at Solid Roots include the design, planting, and care of food producing gardens tailored to each property and household. We grow the majority of our edible plants from seed, allowing us to control plant health, variety selection, and timing from the very beginning.
Our edible gardens are designed with seasonality in mind. We plan for succession planting, staggered harvests, and crops that perform well throughout the growing season. With the right structures and planning, we can also extend the season well beyond the typical Maine growing window.
Experience & Philosophy
Lacey’s introduction to gardening began with growing food, including a MOFGA farm apprenticeship followed by several years working on that farm. That foundation continues to inform how we approach edible gardens today.
We grow food with care and intention, avoiding toxic chemicals and being mindful of what goes into the soil and ultimately onto the table. Our practices prioritize soil health, plant vitality, and sustainability, creating gardens that are productive and aligned with how people want to eat and live.
